This ol' girl finally died on me. The spinning thing to make the other spinning thing finally stopped spinning. I'm looking for another air cooler suggestion and would like to keep it between 50 and 100 bucks. Also, I don't want something this big if possible. This thing took up huge amounts of room within the case and I would like to keep it more open if possible.
There really aren't many decent low profile air coolers, most that I've seen are close to $50 and get outperformed by Hyper 212's that are $30. Have you thought about water coolers? You can get a decent AIO for that price range.
Intel Core i5-6600K 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.5 GHz for processor. I don't overclock much. No particular reason, just never have. I've always heard that the included heatsinks were pretty shitty in general so I bought an air cooler like 5 years ago. With my current case, the previous fan fit fine, but it removed my ability to have a side fan on it of any meaningful size. Currently, I now have a 200mm fan on the side and I'd like to keep it if possible.
I suggest going with a water cooler as you can OC in the future when your CPU starts showing its age and they aren't really that restrictive when it comes to size. Here are a few suggestions. This is the Corsair H80i. Thick rad 120mm AIO with 2 fans for push/pull. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181102&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= This here is a Corsair H60. Similar to the H80 but has 1 less fan and a thinner radiator. I cooled a 6600k with this in the past, works great. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181030&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= This model is a Corsair H105. Has a 240mm radiator, 2 120mm fans. Will cool better than the ones mentioned above. https://www.neweggbusiness.com/Prod...liates&utm_source=afc-cjb2b-PCPartPicker,+LLC This is an EVGA CLC 280. 280mm radiator, 2 140mm fans. Is on par with most 280mm radiators. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= If water isn't your thing, there isn't much in the way of coolers that will be much different than what you already had. Low profile air coolers exist but they are generally shit.
We're past the having to empty the reservoir and all that stuff right? I think that's my main concern is the horror stories of yore about water coolers and such. And looking at these, the smaller part goes over the processor, and then you have the fans. They mount in a card slot? or?
There is no Reservoir in an all in one cooler like Army has suggested for you to use. If your not going to over clock, then a Corsair H55 will be just fine. The more you over clock the more cooling you need. An H55 is cheaper than an H80.. but the H80 has a better radiator, which allows it to cool more. You can always go push/pull with either of them. The H55 is a quick and cheap solution that will be able to handle your needs.
The radiator and fan can go either the front of the case, or the rear. Same place you mount any fan. Just need to be able to reach the CPU from that location.
those are "closed-loop" ...so they arrive filled/sealed, ready to mount, & are not serviceable (aside from fan replacement). all of the suggested models are the same Asetek design, which is pretty reliable & very unlikely to leak. what case do you have? (important factor when looking at coolers, as some will not fit where they work the best, or won't fit at all) for minimal OC, it's a great performing & dead-quiet unit. be much cheaper (or free, if your invoice is under 6yrs ago) to just replace the fan. https://www.arctic.ac/us_en/spare-fan-freezer-13-pro.html
So rather than the fan just dumping into the case itself, it blows directly out so I'll need to remove a fan etc.. Case is this - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146068 There's a bunch of room inside the case without the air cooler so I think it will have enough room for a liquid cooler. And thanks to all for the help. I know how to build them, but optimizing, not so much, and I'm way out of the loop on what's amazing and what's not.
