According to the newest leaks, Coffee Lake will work on the LGA 1151 chipset and will not require an upgrade to a 300 series mobo. It will work on 100 and 200 series mobos. That puts a kink in your gripes for sure. i7-8700k will be 6c/12t and boost into 4ghz. Same with the i5-8600k with 6c/6t. i3 is OCable and is 4c/8t.
Yes, these are "rumors" but the announcement is in 11 days, rumors this close to that date can start to be believable. These are the proper chips to be comparing Ryzen too.
